Developers must innovate to protect communities from climate change

When I was a physician during the early AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and 90s, we learned that innovating care was necessary to address the direct threats of the disease.

In the medical field, flexibility and innovation are essential to help patients.

After I retired from medicine and pursued my passions in community development, I hoped I could help make a difference in fighting another threat facing human health and our society: climate change.

In Ann Arbor, my company 4M Consolidated Brands is embarking on building the first residential mass timber building in the city, called SouthTown. The building will generate its own electricity, making our community more sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change. It will also supply affordable housing in Ann Arbor where a major shortage exists.
